Epilepsy is a neurological condition characterized by recurring seizures. It affects people of all ages and backgrounds. Seizures happen when there is a sudden surge of electrical activity in the brain, which can cause changes in behavior, movements, feelings, or levels of consciousness.
Stay calm and stay with the person. Gently guide them away from danger and cushion their head. Do not restrain them or put anything in their mouth. Turn them on their side and time the seizure. Call 911 if the seizure lasts longer than 5 minutes or if the person is injured.
We offer support groups for adults, teens, parents, and caregivers. We also provide educational workshops, resource guides, community events, and a network of people who understand what you are going through. All of our programs are free and open to everyone.
